Creating Champions


SUITABLE FOR: YEARS 7-10 STUDENTS

 

Creating Champions is a critical introduction to Creating Chances, and sport for personal development. The program will guide and inspire participants to look differently at the world around them, teach vital 21st Century skills and lay the foundations as they take their first steps toward creating positive change on the Creating Chances Youth Development Pathway.

Using an Experiential Learning Model of delivery, the Creating Champions program uses a combination of workshop based activities and sport activities to provide an opportunity for students to experience, reflect and relate skills and strategies designed to reflect their lives in the 21st Century.

CAPABILITY AREAS

Sessions are tailored from four capability areas with 17 options for life skills focus:

Creating Self

Recognising your own emotions and how they affect your thoughts and behaviour, developing a greater understanding of your strengths and weaknesses, and having self-confidence. The life skills in this section include:
• Values
• Confidence building
• Self-awareness

Creating Connections

Developing and maintaining good relationships, communicate clearly, work well in a team, and manage conflict. The life skills in this section include:
• Communication
• Teamwork
• Conflict management

 

Creating Coping Mechanisms

Managing your emotions in healthy ways, managing your time effectively, setting goals and adapting to changing circumstances. The life skills in this section include:
• Building resilience
• Positive thinking
• Goal setting
• Time management
• Relaxation
• Problem solving and decision making

Creating Social Responsibility

Understanding the emotions, needs, and concerns of other people, recognising and appreciating the differences in others, and understanding ways to support others. The life skills in this section include:
• Appreciating diversity
• Overcoming stereotypes
• Rights and responsibilities
• Advocacy
• Empathy

Creating Champions is suitable for targeted groups including:

Leadership

• Vertical grouping (7-10)

Designed to increase cultural understanding and empathy amongst a selected group of students

The program operates across one full school term and includes:

  • Tailored 10 week Creating Champions program for 20 students
  • 2 x dedicated Creating Champions Facilitators to run each session
  • 25 hours worth of workshops and on-field activities
  • All workshop educational materials
  • All required sporting and other equipment
