The energy and openness displayed by the students was palpable. One participant shared that the program taught them “more about my culture and where I’m from”. The environment was “very social and very open about their culture,” describing it as a space where “everyone comes out of their comfort zone.”
My favourite part of today was just being here a part of this program Pacific Waves. It's taught me more about my cultural and where I'm from. [Also] The new schools that I've met, and new friends. Fa’afetai lava (Thank you very much)!
The core takeaways from the excursion centered on connecting with others and leading through empathy. Perhaps the most powerful outcome was the sense of community forged: the students arrived at the excursion only knowing peers from their own schools, but they left having gained a whole community.
