Harry's Story
Harry attended Kanahooka High School and recently completed his traineeship having graduated from Year 12.
He applied to be an SBAT with Creating Chances when he told Head Facilitator, Margie Andreasson, that this would be a fun job. Margie explained the SBAT Program to him and encouraged him to apply because she thought he would be a great candidate for the program. Within a few months he joined his first program alongside Head Facilitator Paul Saulog at Illawarra Sports High School.
Because of his love of football, Harry has been having the best time at the Football United program at Warrawong Intensive English Centre, where he’s enjoyed discovering the power of ‘Sport For Good’.
Harry has also noticed his growth in confidence and leadership because of the skills the traineeship has provided him with the opportunity to develop.
“It’s cool to be able to help younger students, and be the responsible person that students look to for support.”
Another aspect Harry has enjoyed about his traineeship was how he has developed communication and teamwork skills. Harry notes, “I learnt to work together in a team and how to communicate with my colleagues”.
This communication ability has provided a foundation to build connected sessions with students who are engaged and keen to participate.
“All of the skills I’ve developed allow the students to have more fun in the sports session. It gets everyone involved.”
“I worked at the Football United program at the Intensive Learning Centre program. It really changed my view of how you can teach through soccer, and how you can connect through the game no matter what language you speak.”
